When is the best time to trek to the Everest Base Camp Trek?

Conversely to what you may think, the best time to go on the Everest Base Camp Trek is not during the height of summer. The spring months of February through May are broadly regarded the peak season or best time to trek to Everest Base Camp. This is also the time when the time region is at its busiest. Weather at the time of these months is stable and dry-excellent for trekking and for sightseeing. The lower mountains and uplands are most vivid during this time also, so you can anticipate flourishing fields and hill areas surrounded with rhododendrons. 

September and October is another famous trekking period on the other side of summer which tends to be slightly busy. 

Trekking during the winter months (November-January) is still possible, but be ready for temperatures below freezing. Peak summer is called the monsoon season, specified by short, sharp downpours. The trails are very wet and trekking during these months is not recommended.

Will I get altitude sickness on the trek to Mt. Everest base camp?

Majority of the individuals who follow the standard route itinerary, take a moderate ascent with acclimatization days built in and monitor their symptoms will not suffer from any kind of altitude sickness. That being said, altitude sickness is not correlated to age or fitness and can impact on some individuals worse than others. Since it is a potential hazard, you must read up regarding acclimatization and altitude sickness so that you know the symptoms and methods to prevent them.

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu

Day 2Flight to Lukla, Trek to Phakding (2,610m/8,563ft)

  • Take an early morning flight to Lukla.
  • Begin trekking to Phakding, a charming village along the Dudh Koshi River.

Day 3Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,286ft)

  • Cross suspension bridges and enter Sagarmatha National Park.
  • Ascend to Namche Bazaar, a bustling Sherpa town.

Day 4Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

Day 11Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

  • Descend through Pangboche and Tengboche.
  • Return to Namche Bazaar.

Day 12Namche Bazaar to Lukla

  • Trek back to Lukla, marking the end of the trek.
